Another baby... :-)

I attended a birth last night. It was really sweet to be there with friends, to see a young mother be born at the birth of her baby... To see how a mom goes though this time, watching as her daughter becomes a mother.
I work with mom's all the time: It is fun, exhausting, exciting, difficult, and awesome... But this one was different for me. I've known this young mother since she was in High school, I saw her in her prom dress, and she was the Young Woman that my young woman looked up to (as a new young Bee-Hive). Remembering back to the day I was able to attend their wedding, as she was sealed for time and all eternity to her sweetheart, and now, to be privileged to be there as that sweet young couple became a family of their own.
It is a bit overwhelming, looking forward to the day when that is me with my baby(s) all grown up, and becoming a mother. Realizing it is not all that far off in the future... I had to wipe at a tear or two today, thinking about these things.

Thank you to this sweet family for letting me be a part of their lives. Thank you to my family for being supportive of me and my desire to help mom's and families. For holding things together when I leave for a birth, late night phone calls that inturupt their sleep, and for being my additional cheering squad, and my sounding board when I get home. For sharing my joys, and listening when I need to vent!

I'm thankful for the opportunity that I have to work with mom's, and for the desire in my heart to help mom's have beautiful births.
p.s. Baby P was born at 5:33 a.m. (labor really started at 11 p.m. on her due date), he was 8 lbs 4 oz, and a tall 23 1/2 inches long!!! The nurse measured several times to make sure that was correct!
He is adorable! and Mom did a fantastic job! A beautiful natural birth.

Tuesday stuff.

Today, the stove repairman came out. He was in my house and gone in less than 20 minutes. The guy from the other day - Mr. Noodle - showed up about halfway through, to watch. He said when he arrived, 'gotta learn' with a shrug. Well yes, that right, but goodness. Anyway the glass is no longer free floating in the middle of my oven door. I can feel good about cooking again, in my oven, that glass isn't going to fall into my food, etc.

I was glad when I got the phone call last night to confirm the appointment for the oven repair today. I had written tuesday on my callendar for the repair, but, both Bill and I seemed to think it was going to be on wed. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go to the play morning tomorrow at the park. But, all is well, the oven is fixed and tomorrow I can go play at the park! yay!

So, my friend is pregnant with twins. She called me almost as soon as she knew she was pregnant with the happy news. Then when it was twins, I got another call and we talked about her options. She hadk planned to have a Home Birth this time, and her husband had finally agreed, but, with twins he just wasn't comfortable. So she started her OB care at a practice with a midwife in it. She lives in NYC.

I was at her first birth nearly 7 years ago in Japan - my First Doula birth!
I was going to be with her last time in Chicago - but she had the baby two days before my ticket. Then I had Liam and I never did get to go see her.
This time with twins, I was going to be there!!! I had planned to go up for three weeks, knowing the twins often come a we bit early - I didn't want to miss this one!
Going for three weeks however meant I'd need to take Liam with me. She lives in an appartment in NYC (they actually moved into a slightly bigger one with the twins coming). She has two kids, and having me and a second two year old running around she just decided it woud be too much. I totally understand, but was a bit sad as well.
Over the weekend she called me several times with questions, wondering if perhaps her water had broken, etc. She had some pretty good contractions over the weekend. yesterday she called and we talked for a while, as she contracted - eventually having to stop and breathe through them.
I told her I wished I could get up there! Bill was out of town till tonight, and would be leaving again friday for Louisiana so I didn't know how I could even manage it... (of course he was in Rome when she had her last one without me).
She called me today and said she'd gone to the hosp last night around 7 pm. The Dr. checked her and said she was at 3 cm. She eventually came back home at 1:30 this morning, as she had stopped contracting when she got to the hosp.
She told me she had waited for me to get up there... ;-) Oh if only!!!!!!! Now I'm trying to devise a plan. Could I do it? Could I get to NY and be there in time for her birth??? Who could I get to take care of the kids while I was gone??? Would Bill even let me go??? How much would it cost??? Even with his miles since it would be a last minute ticket. How long would I need to stay??? what if she didnt' have the baby's this week? I feel like it would just be too much to pull together so quickly. But I really would LOVE to be there to help her. Not to mention when am I going to have the opportunity to see twins born again??? and I'd sure like to be able to help out after she has two little baby's at home!
Oh, I'm just dreaming. Oh well...
