Laundry fun...

O.K. so maybe, you just had to be here, but today we went down to the basement to do laundry. We got a few loads of laundry in, and then waited for another machine to open up. Eventually Rach realized this one machine was open, it was just flashing a messge to pick a new wash cycle... o.k. fine, we put her sheets in, she puts the card (they have specific cards that you put money on and use it for all the machines)... the machine ATE her card! That isn't supposed to happen!!! we start laughing, she goes to tell a maintenance man and he comes back, checks out the machine, he unplugs the machine, and takes her information so that they can refund her the money on the card.
Meanwhile she has no card to use the machines, and we aren't able to finish the washing, let alone when it gets finished, we wouldn't be able to dry the clothes... so Rach says, no big deal I'll just go upstairs, get some money, come down and buy another card. She does this and tries to purchase another card, and the machine is all out of new cards! Unbelievable!!!! We are cracking up at this point! So she goes to talk to the maintenance men again, they come back and say they've caled the company, but they have no more cards. So... they call one of the doormen to see if they have a card that they will allow Rach to use. They say yes, and we wait... and we wait... and wait. All the cothes we washed for 30 minutes, have finished, although one of the machines didn't seem to rinse it very well, and they were all full of bubbles still, so we need to rewash that load; we have the rest of the wet clothes in the laundry cart, but don't want to take up any dryers in case someone else needs/wants to use them. Meanwhile, the kids are trying to keep themselves entertained. They have sat and watched the front loading washing machine spin and bubble and spin and spin, then when all those machines finished up, they got a laundry cart and T sat in it and A pushed him all around the laundry room. Finally, just as Rach was going off to see if the doorman forgot her ;-) he came down and appologized for taking so long.
We got the clothes in the dryers, started them, ran the two loads in the wash, and after about 45 minutes were able to come back upstairs and feed the kids lunch...
It might not sound funny to anyone else, but we jsut sat down there and laughed as each new weird thing happened... the maintenance guys were really appriciate that we were laughing instead of biting osmeone's head off for all the bad things that happend...
Oh, yay! they just called and the mechanic they called in for the washing machine is here and he was able to get her card out of the broken machine. So now at least she'll have one and not have to depend on the doorman to borrow an extra card. Of course she already put money on that card... but, she felt like he was so nice to let her borrow it anyway, he deserved what extra she had put on the card. How crazy. I took pictures on my phone that I had with me, but can't download them until I get home.
On another note, Rach had some good contractions last night for a while. We took a little walk to the corner market, to see what that would do... but, it's another day and no babies yet... but on the other hand she is one day closer to 37 wks, and that's good for the babies - they are able to get a bit bigger and stronger each day. ;-)

More Friends...

I just got ahold of one of the other family's that I worked for as a nanny, and it is jewish holiday season. they are flying to FL this week for Rosh Hashana - Jewish New Year. Then they get back and it is Yom Kippur - High Holy Days http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/
So for now we will plan (depending on babies) to go stay with them for a couple of days and help cook and have dinner at their house with about 12 other guests, for Yom Kippur. My oldest child at that family is in CO currently and is a Lobbyist for the Letter Carriers Union. My 2nd child -at that family- Miss Amanda Katherine - my Amanda Katherine's name sake - is working in Philly - she has a masters in Psychology with a 2nd degree in Jewish Study's and is thinking of becomming a Rabbi one day - but at 21 has decided that she is too young to make that decision, so she's working for now. Katie Amanda Katherine as her older Brother Adam used to call her, will be home for Yom Kippur, so I can see her also. This will be fun!
Now to figure out transportation... :-)

New York, New York!!!!!

I'm here! I'm in New York!

thank you to my sweetheart for letting me come! And thankyou, thankyou to all the friends who are helping me out by letting Liam come play this week!!!

My friend is going to her appointment this morning to see how things are going and if there has been any change since last week - 3 cm. I will keep Tanner her 2 1/2 yr old home. Hopefully we can find something to play so he'll like me... ;-) We were going to take a walk yesterday afternoon along the east river, and then go to a park for the kids to run off a little energy, but just before we got the couple of blocks to the Riverwalk, it started raining and we didn't have any jackets or anything, so we came back home. Rach had wanted to walk, so her hubby Gar and the kids took the elevator up, and we walked up the 6 flights to their apartment. She has a really cute little apartment. This whole living in NYC is so interesting. No car, they either walk, ride a bus or taxi everywhere they go. Gar takes the subway to work (in the financial district - and yes he's been interviewing around other places, since he hasn't been officially fired yet this week, but... he's just waiting for the severance letter. ) Rach doesn't like to take the subway, a bit daunting with kids in tow... a stroller and all, but when they are together Rach n Gar, they take the subway quite a bit.

I'll try to keep updaitng my blog as the week goes on. I don't figure I'll have pic's this week though. I will just have to post pic's after I get back home.

I'm kind of sad to miss the Pie's at Enrichment this week... but next weekend after Sariah comes up to see me for Fall break, I'm taking her up to an Apple Orchard http://www.wilkensfarm.com/ When I first came to NY (many many long years ago...), I worked as a nanny for a very nice family. The mom (my boss) was the oldest child in the family that owns and runs Wilkens fruit and fir farm. The closest pick your own apple orchard to NYC. The whole family (whoever lives near enough) comes every weekend in the fall, and winter and work the farm pick your own business. We always had fresh (or frozen) applesauce to eat and apple juice and Cider to drink all year round. I haven't seen them all in a long time. I guess it's been abt. 9 -10 years. We did visit when Hanah was a baby, and Sariah was 3, before we moved to Japan. But it was summer and we didnt' go to the farm. It will be fun to take my daughter to see the farm. I wonder if I could get apples home to AL...? We could make a yummy pie!!!
My 'baby' that I took care of as a nanny (she was 3 months old when I started) is a grown woman now... Kristamarie, graduated from Cornell University with a Masters in Biomedical Engineering and is currently seeking employment in the field of orthopedics. I will get to see her as well, as she is living back at home this year and working.

Tuesday stuff.

Today, the stove repairman came out. He was in my house and gone in less than 20 minutes. The guy from the other day - Mr. Noodle - showed up about halfway through, to watch. He said when he arrived, 'gotta learn' with a shrug. Well yes, that right, but goodness. Anyway the glass is no longer free floating in the middle of my oven door. I can feel good about cooking again, in my oven, that glass isn't going to fall into my food, etc.

I was glad when I got the phone call last night to confirm the appointment for the oven repair today. I had written tuesday on my callendar for the repair, but, both Bill and I seemed to think it was going to be on wed. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go to the play morning tomorrow at the park. But, all is well, the oven is fixed and tomorrow I can go play at the park! yay!

So, my friend is pregnant with twins. She called me almost as soon as she knew she was pregnant with the happy news. Then when it was twins, I got another call and we talked about her options. She hadk planned to have a Home Birth this time, and her husband had finally agreed, but, with twins he just wasn't comfortable. So she started her OB care at a practice with a midwife in it. She lives in NYC.

I was at her first birth nearly 7 years ago in Japan - my First Doula birth!
I was going to be with her last time in Chicago - but she had the baby two days before my ticket. Then I had Liam and I never did get to go see her.
This time with twins, I was going to be there!!! I had planned to go up for three weeks, knowing the twins often come a we bit early - I didn't want to miss this one!
Going for three weeks however meant I'd need to take Liam with me. She lives in an appartment in NYC (they actually moved into a slightly bigger one with the twins coming). She has two kids, and having me and a second two year old running around she just decided it woud be too much. I totally understand, but was a bit sad as well.
Over the weekend she called me several times with questions, wondering if perhaps her water had broken, etc. She had some pretty good contractions over the weekend. yesterday she called and we talked for a while, as she contracted - eventually having to stop and breathe through them.
I told her I wished I could get up there! Bill was out of town till tonight, and would be leaving again friday for Louisiana so I didn't know how I could even manage it... (of course he was in Rome when she had her last one without me).
She called me today and said she'd gone to the hosp last night around 7 pm. The Dr. checked her and said she was at 3 cm. She eventually came back home at 1:30 this morning, as she had stopped contracting when she got to the hosp.
She told me she had waited for me to get up there... ;-) Oh if only!!!!!!! Now I'm trying to devise a plan. Could I do it? Could I get to NY and be there in time for her birth??? Who could I get to take care of the kids while I was gone??? Would Bill even let me go??? How much would it cost??? Even with his miles since it would be a last minute ticket. How long would I need to stay??? what if she didnt' have the baby's this week? I feel like it would just be too much to pull together so quickly. But I really would LOVE to be there to help her. Not to mention when am I going to have the opportunity to see twins born again??? and I'd sure like to be able to help out after she has two little baby's at home!
Oh, I'm just dreaming. Oh well...

Another potty moment...

So, tonight while we were watching the movie, Hannah presses something on the remote and then hands it to me like it had been in her way, and she'd sat on it or something. Then she grabs the DVD remote, and pushes pause!

HEY!!!! what's up? we're watchign that! She says, "I have to go potty, really bad", so she runs to the bathroom, unlocks the door, and we sit and wait for the paused movie to start again.

A few minutes later after we are watchign the show again, Liam grabs the remote, starts pushing buttons, and I say, hey give me that, and he says, "I have to go potty!" and runs for the bathroom - we are all dying laughing at him!!! Of course I was just glad the door was properly locked again (having only retrieved the ball from the toilet an hour or so earlier).

We are all still laughing as he comes back toward us and is puling his diaper off... then I notice it! Yikes, stop that!!!!! he's poopy! perhaps he really did "have to go potty!" the joys of toddlers.

Some days are very very good...

Back in March/April when we painted and fixed up Sariah's room we had some things that did not get done. Before we did her room, Sariah had a bunch of things stuck to her walls with thumbtacks. After patching all those holes in the walls before and while I painted. I told her she was NOT to put any thumbtacks back in the walls!!!!! I told her we would make a nice bulletin board.
Her first week in Y.W. the leader had them make wallhangings/plaques. Sariah was so excited. SHe made one that was the colors of her room, and said her name and I Am A Child Of God on it. So cool! We had wanted to paint something or hang something over her door. This was Perfect!!! We finally got something on the back to hang it up, and it looks so good!

At some point when I helped my friend L move from her rental house into a nice house down the road a ways - she had a bunch of things the previous owners had just left behind. One was a bunch of movie posters and a bunch of large picture frames 24' x 36'. She gave me one of the big frames, and I thought it was a great start to make the bulletin board.

It took us quite a while to finally get all the things together for it. I had been promising Sariah we'd work on it... well, the time was FINALLY here! I had told her last weekend as I worked on something for the other kids, that this Saturday was THE DAY!!!

We went out and bought some of the remaining needed supplies, came home and worked and worked. Sariah made thumbtack buttons, way cute! We covered some squares with fabric, some parts are cork board, some are white board, and two of the fabric area's are also magnetic.

Sariah got a cool new bed for her new room, but she felt like it was taking up too much of the room and really wanted to get rid of the bed altogether and get a small fold out chair or something for her bed. Well, after spending the money on the bed, Dad said she was keeping the bed! We did take the dresser she didnt' want, out, and gave her a smaller dresser that fit in her closet to give her more room and we moved the bed to a different wall (in front of the windows, which seemed wrong to me... but, after talking it through, I agreed to let her try it). It actually did open the room up and make it seem much larger. We also took off her closet door (it is behind her bedroom door and if it was left open - which it ALWAYS was, and then the doors would bang into each other... Very annoying! I reused a shower curtain we had when the little girls were in the big room, for the curtain over the closet doorway, and it matches and looks really cute.

Bill told me this morning as he was getting ready to leave for a trip to Orlando, when times are hard, Remember the good days. Yesterday was a very good day!

Today was the Primary Program at church. I always LOVE the primary program! Seeing and hearing the little kids is so fun! They are all so darn cute!!!!! I knew Marissa was singing a solo of the first verse of I am a Child of God, but I didn't realize how much she was doing! She and 4 other little girls got up right at the beginning, no introduction or anything, and started singing. She was First on the whole program! She sang the whole first verse by herself, then the other little girls sang with her the second verse and then the whole primary sang the third verse. She did a great job! She didn't even look or act nervous at all! I was so proud of her!

Sariah has technically graduated from Primary, but until January is till there for closing exercises, the talks, and singing (since we have three meetings in the same building that over lap, we have sac. mtg first, then PH, RS, and YW, 2nd, then after that we have sunday school). Anyway Sariah sits with the sunbeam class (which is a very active sunbeam class), and helps with the kids. So today she had the role of helping them sit reverently and had one if not two children sitting on her lap the entire time. She had also promised the kids that if they did a good job durring the program he would give them a treat. She fixed little treat bags for each one of those little 3 yr old sunbeams. Bill commented that he doesn't know what they will do in January when Sariah leaves primary altogether and is no longer around ot help out.

This afternoon, we stayed for a baptism (there are a lot of 8 year olds in our ward!). Then we came home and Amanda suggested we have a picnic. The kids wanted to eat outside, but after making all the sandwhiches, etc. it was getting close to dark and I didn't want to volunteer myself as Mosquito food, so we spread the blanket out and watched a movie and ate our pinic inside. While we were getting ready, Liam came into the kitchen and announced he'd 'gone' potty or something... Amanda rushed to find out what, and he'd put a ball in the toilet, and flushed!!!!! Luckily the ball was too big to go down and had holes so the water could flow through it and it didnt' block anything up, I'm just hoping that was the ONLY thing he put down the potty!!! UGH!!!!!! What to do with this boy! We keep everything locked most of the time (to where it's hard to get in the bathroom when someone REALLY has to go!!! we have to find the metal stick/key and unlock the door! This one time someone left the door unlocked, and wouldn't you know it, he found out!

Oh wait! He's upstairs, and everyone is in bed, and I think I hear him in my room/bathroom! YIKES! I didn't lock my door!

Mr. Noodle... How do YOU fix an oven door???

The glass in the inside of our oven door broke recently. (o.k. it’s now been probably a month... and I’ve had a LOT of baking to do... how many birthday cakes? And not to mention, I do actually make dinner occasionally). I was preheating the oven, then Bill put the food in, while I ran someone somewhere... can’t remember who, what or where. When I came home I checked on dinner, and noticed the glass inside my oven door had basically shattered in a starburst pattern. (why in all this time I don’t have a picture of it, I can’t even figure out now!!!). A few small shards of glass had actually fallen or blown out in the center. Luckily for us, the dinner had a cover on it, so we went ahead and ate the dinner. (thank goodness for small blessings).
Another small blessing: Bill called about it the next day, and figured out our service contract was about to end – we had 3 or so days left. YAY! It wouldn’t cost us anything to get it fixed. Bill had also checked on line and the part was only $35.00 so it might have been possible for him to fix it. Anyway, Bill called me to tell me they would be coming to fix the door on Thursday, and I said fine. He had given them the part number and figured they’d order the glass and get it in that week. Awesome!
Amanda was home sick all that week, so when the guy came, she was witness to what happened next. The guy came, said, I’m here to look at your stove, I guess. I am thinking, “Wait a minute! My husband gave them the part number, model of the oven, etc. you were supposed to be here to FIX the door! I have birthday cake to make for a party tomorrow!!!!!” I opened the oven door, he said, yep, it’s broken. Thanks, I hadn’t noticed. He then went on his little computer and was putting in the information to order the parts... O.K. so why did they bother to take down all the information, from my husband??? Then he said his computer was down or something like that, and he couldn’t put in the actual order until he went back to the warehouse or somewhere... and the parts would come in the mail, to us, and they scheduled someone to come back the following week on Wed. to repair the oven.
Wed. came and went... no parts, no repaired oven door. Remember all the cake baking I HAD to do??? I covered the inside of the oven door with a sheet of Aluminum Foil, and went on about my baking business. I figured as long as the glass couldn’t get into the food I was preparing, I was o.k. basically.
On about Friday the parts showed up.

I have to insert a ***********RANT*********** here!!!!!!!!

I HATE (not just dislike, HATE, HATE, HATE), all those 800, 866, etc. phone numbers that call my house! I can not tell you how many times I have had a baby just about asleep in my arms, or some other inconvenient time, and the phone rings! I think, Oh, it could be one of the kids calling from school, or my hubby calling with some need, or something... so I haul myself and the no longer sleeping child up off the couch, (or my nakey self out of the shower, or, or, or...), to run for the phone and it is some stupid 1-800- number! You all may have heard my screams of frustration at this moment, on many occasions. O.K. so, IF by chance I answer the phone, and I get some dumb computerized voice message trying to get me to do something, sell something, etc. I just want to nearly rip the phone from the wall – oh ya, It’s cordless these days, NO satisfaction there! Not to mention then, I’d be the one without a phone, no effect on them.
I also have to say, I think that the police, the firemen, the K-9 unit with the dogs, that go into the schools to teach the children... etc, etc, etc. are all good and worthy causes, however; I hate that once you have actually sent any ONE of them a monetary donation, you seem to be on some calling list where EVERY needy organization wants to guilt you into making a donation to their organization! And on top of that, they all seem to call at the same time (we only have so much money to throw around at any given time...). Then, their tactics! They thank you so much for your donation from the last year, tell you all about how good their cause is, then ask if you’ll commit to sending them money again this year. I generally say, if you can send me the information, we’ll send what and when we can. Oh, no mama, that is just not good enough! We need to have your commitment of a dollar amount, with the assurance that you will return the money (as though you owe it to them somehow) in a timely manner, once the info (return envelope for you to put your money in) arrives at your house in approximately 3-5 business days. Yada, Yada, yada! Well, for one, as I’ve said, I’m sure they are all worthy causes, or have the potential... but I’m tired of it! And, I don’t pay the bills at my house (I don’t like math all that much and I’m not computer savvy, and Bill has everything computerized, etc, etc.) so I can’t guarantee them how much I can send and if or when I will send it back to them with my money.
Then there is the fact that often they will call and ask for my husband, I ask who is calling, having a pretty good idea – and they say whatever organization they are with, and could they speak with my husband? Well, it is the middle of the day during a work week, 9 times out of 10, and NO he’s not here! He is at his job! Working! If he wasn’t we certainly wouldn’t have the money to send to them anyway!!!!! The other time they seem to call is on Sunday evenings! UGH!!!! Hate that!

O.k. so my kids now know if the phone rings and it’s a 1-800 number or the like, they are not supposed to answer the phone! I don’t WANT to talk to them! Sariah thinks it’s great fun to answer the phone anyway, with a, “Hello, Papa John’s Pizza! May I take your order?” then when they act confused, she hangs up!
I have even in my complete irritation at the phone begging, been known to answer periodically and tell them, I’m tired of all the phone calls (that are basically harassing me!), and to take me off their calling list! I had one guy ask me one time, if I had answered the phone all of those times, and that if you just don’t answer, then they continue to call back, until you ask them to remove your name from the calling list. He wasn’t very nice about it, acted all snotty about it, but now I do feel somewhat obligated to answer the phone (and I admit, not so kindly most of the time), periodically to tell them to bug off and stop calling my house!!!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BACK TO MY ORIGINAL POST~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My phone had been ringing with some 1-800 number a lot recently! I hate to answer the phone, so I try to ignore it! After a week or so, I answer one of them, and I say, please take me off your calling list, and hang up! I think I might have heard the woman on the other end of the line trying to say something like, but wait!..... this isn’t, who knows what. At some point Bill says, who was it, I tell him, and he says something like, could it have possibly been the oven repair people! Oh great!!!!! Probably! I’m even more annoyed now, that they call from some random 1-880 number with no identifying name to make me WANT to answer the phone. Bill happens to check the messages and hears that they’ve been trying to call us. OOOOOPPPPPSS!!! So the next time the phone rang with an 800 number, I almost didn’t answer, then remembered and barely got the phone before it switched to voice mail. Some lady with whatever repair company, wanting to schedule our oven repair. Fantastic! (I am personally really, really annoyed they are calling from the 1-800 number!), and so we schedule, for two weeks out! Greeaaat!
So, they asked would I prefer morning or afternoon! Good, they can narrow it down for me... I don’t have to sit ALL DAY LONG and wait!!!!! I say morning. The weeks come and go, and today is the day! Amanda is sick... still! So I call first thing this morning to get her an appointment, they had one available at 10:00 am, but I couldn’t do that, since I had to wait for the oven repair guy. I took the appt. at 2:10 this afternoon.
As it neared mid-day, I was getting a bit frustrated. I checked my phone calls list and there was a 1-800 number. I remembered they called a day or two ago too confirm that we did have the parts, so I was hoping it was the correct 1-800 number as I called them. It was the right place, but the guy in Texas couldn’t tell me anything, about when the repairman would come to my house. He passed a message along that he needed to call me. He calls and figures, he might be at my house about 2:00 p.m. So sorry, that just WON’T work for me today, he suggests calling to reschedule some other time. NOT!!!!!!!! I’ve been waiting nearly a month already! We figure out he could come after 3:30 and I would have a pretty good chance I’d be back home from the Dr.
He arrives just after 5 p.m. A long day for him, I’m sorry. He came in, took the oven door off and started right to work. The longer he worked, the more he talked to himself, under his breath (something... this should go here, I think this goes here...) I would look over at Bill, and we’d give each other looks, like, oh my goodness, this is not going well, the more he seemed less and less competent. After an hour and a half, he put the oven door back on, got on his little phone, went outside, came back in, and finally said, he thought he did it right, but it’s only the 2nd oven door he’s ever worked on, and the inner glass in the middle (a third layer between the inside and the outside glass), slipped and so another technician and he would come back NEXT WEEK on WED, to see if they can actually FIX the door. He’s sorry, but at least next time I’ll have Two guys working on it, like I should feel special. WHATEVER!!!!!
I was frustrated, but not saying anything. He cleaned up his stuff, and finally left. We went into the kitchen to check it out, and don’t think I should use the oven until he gets it fixed, since if you open the door, the glass slides and moves around. We don’t want it to break so it will take even longer for them to again order the glass and then come back and fix it again...
Here comes the post title: Do you remember it??? I swear the second he left, Bill said, “Hey, Mr. Noodle, how do YOU fix and oven door?” I laughed so hard I cried! I was coughing, and trying to breathe! I had tried to be really nice and not think too poorly of the poor guy, but after Bill said that, I couldn’t believe it! He looks almost exactly like Mr. Noodle! I had to write this all down now while I was thinking about it, but I can’t post it yet, since I posted Marissa’s baptism story today, and certainly didn’t want to over ride her nice day with this ridiculous post!
Oh well, that’s life...
Marissa's Baptism Day!
Yesterday Sept. 14th, 2008 Marissa was Baptised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, by her father. It was a very nice day, we had a double baptism with another little friend from church with a birthday just 2 days before Marissa. The good thing I remember from way back when I was baptised, is that I got baptised on the same day as my best friend. It was kind of fun to have a baptism buddy.
When Rebekah was about to turn eight years old, a friend with a daughter just a couple of months older than Rebekah, made a dress while she made her daughters dress and sent it to us for Rebekah's baptism. I made pantaloons and a cami to go underneath so it wasn't see through when it was all wet. Each one of my girls has worn it when they got baptised. I was even thinking that perhaps we can save it and send it around to all of the granddaughters some day. (as it turned out, Our little friend 'A' got to wear the outfit that her grandmother made for her mom when she was a little girl that she was baptised in - so both girls had on family heirlooms for the baptism. Afterward they both put on their pretty white dresses. they both looked so sweet! the smiles on their faces!
Marissa looked like she was glowing!
Another sweet moment was after 'A' was confirmed, she went back to her seat and was going to sit down, they had her come back up to give her dad a hug and to shake hands all around the circle. ;-) Then, after Marissa was confirmed, she hugged her dad, and then instead of just shaking hands, she hugged each of the priesthood bretheren who stook in the circle, it was cute. Then, when Marissa went back and sat down next to 'A' and they hugged each other. Very Sweet! I wished I could have taken a picture of THAT moment! :-) (of course that wouldn't have been exactly appropriate in the middle of the meeting... but so cute! )
The sad part of the day is that we've had a lot of sickness in our family. I was coughing up a lung for most of the day and have a deep husky voice. Amanda was asked to give the talk on Baptism, but she has been feeling sick again - she has never quite kicked what she had a couple of weeks ago, and is coughing all the time, and not able to sleep well, so she's exhausted, and now getting sick again all over again. Anyway, she did NOT feel well durring church yesterday. By the time we were sitting down ready for the baptism, she felt really bad, and was crying. I reached over and touched her head, and she was on fire! burning up with a fever! I ended up reading her talk, lucky she had written down pretty much everything she was going to say!
We had invited the 'S' family over after church for dinner. I just made a big crock pot of chili, and put stuff in the bread machine, so we had nice yummy fresh bread. It was a little crazy with 13 kids here in the house (Rebekah had a friend that came to dinner as well as the 6 children in each of ours and the 'S' families). It was fun to spend time with friends.
We had a lovely day. We are grateful for all of the friends (adopted families), that came to share our day with us.
Happy Happy Birthday to my sweet Marissa!!! (very long, and pictures)
When I found out that I was pregnant with Marissa I was quite shocked/surprised! We had talked about more children, but with each of the others we had planned them and this one came along sooner than I would have planned.
I was overwhelmed! I had just moved to a foreign country, far from anyone I knew for my support group. I would now have 5 children and two under two! Hannah had JUST had her 1st birthday earlier in the month that I discovered I was pregnant. I took the pregnancy test on Dec 30 - Bill's birthday so I made him a birthday card that said Surprise! on the front and Happy Birthday Daddy5 (to the fifth power) on the inside. The 5 was really teeny tiny, so it wasn't totally obvious. I handed him the card with his presents, he opened up the card, looked at it, and sat it to the side. After he opened one present, I handed him the card back. He said, Ive already read it, I told him no he hadn't. He looked at it and sat it down again... so once again I handed it back to him and he had to really look it over to see what the 'Surprise' was! I cried, and he hugged me and said everything would be alright, and that Heavenly Father must have wanted this baby to come at this time. I am So thankful for a wonderful supportive husband/father of my children.
To top everything else off, my Expected Due Date was on LABOR DAY!!!! the injustice of that on top of everything else was just the icing on the cake! I decided the only good thing about being due on Labor Day, was that it was in September and that meant the birthstone was a Saphire! That could be worth it... ;-)
Having already had two baby's at home, I had no plans of going to one of the two military hospitals available to me in Japan. (Even if I wanted to go to the hospital, each was at least a 1 hour drive away from where we lived, without traffic - it could easily take up to three hours to get there,with typical Japan traffic, and I had no intention to get in a car for a three hour drive while in heavy labor, and would most likely not make it anyway with my birth history.)
I cried, and wondered how I was going to be able to birth this baby, with the kind of help and support I needed! I had already had one baby unassisted, (Sariah), but I knew that wasn't what I wanted to do. I liked having a support group of women to assist me in birth. Also, though I had faith and trust in my body to be able to birth this baby, I still would much rather have a knowlegeable trained birth assistant/MW to assist me. I was in Japan, and I don't speak Japanese! I was used to living in my own little American Culture Military community and didn't go out on the economy for health care. I didn't know how or where to start searching or if it was even a possibility to find someone Japanese to help me.
I do remember searching on the internet and I found the name of a Japanese Midwife, but I didn't know exctly were she was at, how to find her, and I was so afraid of trying to even contact her thinking about the language barrier... I gave up.
I went to my monthly prenatal appointments on post. At some point, the OB nurse would ask at each one where I was planning to deliver at? The Air Force Hospital at Yokota Air Base, or the Navy Hospital at Yokosuka? I would usually answer with something like, I dont' actually have to make up my mind until I'm actual IN labor, right? I can go whereever I want at the time. Well... yes, but they like you to choose so that you can go to one appointment there. I told her I didn't want to drive 3 hours just to sit in an office for who knows how much longer to finally get in to see a Dr. I might NEVER see again, just for their benefit of me having made a choice. In my head I knew I was never going to go to either, so what did it matter, really.
As time went along, I tried to think of having this baby unassisted. I'd done it before, but didn't want to do the whole thing and be completely responsible for everything again, all by myself. I liked feeling pampered and taken care of and supported in birth. I didn't know if I had the energy to do it on my own. Bill wanted someone else to be there, that was trained, and knew how to handle anything that might possibly be a bit unusual.
Finally I asked if we could fly our wonderful Midwife to Japan. I contacted her and though she was on sort of a sabatical, from Midwifery for a time, she agreed to come for my birth. We purchased her ticket. She was planning on spending 3 weeks with me in Japan.
Oh, the peace and calm so that I could prepare for the birth, without the stress of indecision, lurking in the background.
I continued on with my regular prenatal visits, and the nurse became more and more irritating. I tried to just ignore her, but it is difficult when you are pregnant and the emotional roller coster that I was on made it difficult. I didnt want to lie, about my plans, I just tried not to let too much slip out. I did the basics, and continued to be undecided about the place of birth...
I remember taking Rebekah in to the clinic to the Dentist one hot August day. For some reason we ran into the Head of the Hospital (small post, so it was really just a clinic) on our little Army post. Being very pregnant, some comments were made. I didn't figure he knew me from anyone... I don't know why I knew who he was for that matter.
After the dentist apointment, I went to my friend Liz's to get the other kids. We were there when Bill tracked me down, and let me know the news.
I sat stunned and sobbing, as her told me the events of the afternoon...
'The Military Powers That Be' had figured out my plan... I had been fairly open and honest with my Family Practice Dr. that I'd been seeing for most of my prenatal appointments. He was a member of my Church, and a friend/aquaintance. He told me later that when they'd come to him and asked him point blank what my plans were, he couldn't Lie to them, and had to answer that I was planning on a home birth.
SO they had talked to 'legal' and contacted their main headquarters for hospital stuff, etc in Hawaii, and had come up with that having my Midwife come from the states would be illegal. They told my husband that they would ban her from coming on post. He was under direct orders that I was NOT to have my baby in our on post housing. Furthermore, they told my husband that as soon as I went into labor, he was to call the hospital/clinic and they would send the ambulance to transport me to one of the military hospitals, an hour away. He questioned them, and asked, why couldn't he take me in our privately owned vehicle? They told him, that 'If I ended up having the baby in the car on the way there, they would ASSUME that we had gone against orders, and had our baby at home then put me in the car and drove me to the hospital.' Basically they told him he as an Officer in the United States Army couldn't be trusted, and he would lie to them.
I was a mess... I fell apart. I couldn't understand how they could do that to me and force anything on me like that?!?!?! Poor Rebekah felt guilty for having had me be at the clinic that afternoon, and running into the Head of the Clinic. As though that had set the chain of events in motion. No they had been planning this for some time, working on it.
It was Friday afternoon, I was 38 weeks pregnant, and my Midwife Katia, was flying in on Monday... I didn't have a lot of time to fight this! I didn't know how to fight it! I was pregnant and hormonal and an emotional wreck! We caled Katia and told her everything, and she called the airline and postponed her ticket for the time being...
That night I couldn't take it anymore... they were pitting my husband, my love, against me! They had threatened that if we went against orders they could send me and the kids home from Japan and of course he'd have to stay and finish his tour there alone. I didn't know what to do. Bill was trying to work things out. He called and spoke with the main OB nurse at Yokota Air Base hospital, to try and see if we could get them to work with us, to accomodate the birth we planned and wanted.
Of course when I arrived at the hospital I would be required to get an I.V. and be stuck to all the monitors continuously (I didn't know quite as much then about getting around some of these things as I do now - since they are not necessary) stuck in the bed, and all of the other hospital interventions that I didn't want. When we asked if our children would be allowed to be with us, we were told that the older girls could be with us for labor, but when it came time for the birth, 'there just wouldn't be enough room for them to be in with us and they'd need to go out'. Well, this was absolutely not acceptable to us. We veiwed birth as a family affair. I know this may sound strange to many, but for us, it is how it is.
At my first home birth, Rebekah and Amanda were with us as labor began (or so we thought), and after taking walks with them in the wagon around the neighborhood to see if we could get things moving along, they were sent to bed. They were awakened at about 2 in the morning within 20 or 30 minutes of the birth, with their sleepy eyes, sitting on the couch in our living room holding Sariah. The next morning as we snuggled up in bed to sleep, the girls would come in and out to kiss and love on their new baby, and then they'd go off to play. It was so sweet. They still feel like they were there for her birth. They were there for Hannah's birth, and Rebekah was one of the first to touch her sisters head as I delivered her. They had been a big part of the pregnancy, and wanted to be there! When they heard that they wouldn't be allowed to be with us for the actual birth it was very upsetting to them. And again, Rebekah felt like it was somehow her fault.
I knew that as things were at that moment, if my husband had any knowlege of any plans that I had, he could get in trouble. I decided I needed to go for a walk. I left the house, and began walking and crying and thinking and plotting. I wondered if there was a way I could go camp out somewhere and just have my baby somewhere in the woods, all alone. Then at least they couldn't be mad at Bill, right? I was a little out of my mind at that moment. I felt a bit like a caged animal that had no choice in anything in my life. I walked and walked and walked for several hours that evening/night. I thought, if I could walk and get labor started, then just keep walking, and finally arrive on someone's front doorstep just in time to knock on their door as I delivered, then once again, Bill couldn't get in trouble. I was desperate! Of course looking back on it now, some of the things that were important to me to have (like family, and a support network, etc), weren't part of my crazy plans, but by then I felt like I had to take a stand somehow, and not let anyone force me to do things I didn't want or need.
I wrote a long article - letters to the editor - to send in to the Stars and Stripes Newspaper, about how they may as well lock me in chains and take me to jail, and cut the baby from my body, for as much choice as they were giving me! I wrote about how my husband, and we as his family, have faced separations with the risk of him losing his life to protect other peoples rights. Where were my rights??? It was pretty scathing... Bill wouldn't let me send it.
That afternoon after talking to Bill while I was at my friend Liz's house, we sent out back and sat and talked (her backyard had the neighborhood playground in it), and we talked to several of her neighbors as well about my plight. One of her neighbors was Japanese - married to an American. She knew of someone who had birthed with a midwife. I was afraid to even hope or ask my husband for more $ money... since we'd already paid for our Midwife Katia to fly to Japan (a ticket that never ended up being used, and was a complete waste of quite a bit of money). I didn't know how much more I could ask of my husband. I was so torn up inside! I didn't actually tell him, but he found out and said of course we'd do whatever we needed to do to make it work.
Saturday morning I got a phone call from Liz's Neighbor. She had contacted her friend, found the midwife's information and called her and made an appointmetn for me on monday morning.
I was nervous, and still afraid of the language/communication barrier. Bill had a young mother from work come with us as a translator. Naomi had a little boy Renji, just a bit older than Hannah and was expecting her 2nd baby the end of Oct. She went with us, filled out all the paperwork for us (since all the questions were in Japanese), and went in with us to our initial appointment.
We explained our situation, our birth history, and our desire to not go to the hospital at all, and in an ambulance no less. She had no commitment to me, and yet she opened her heart and her birth center to us, at the last moment. What a relief. When Bill went back and talked with the Hosp. Commander that afternoon and told him we'd found a Japanese Midwife and a birth center literally 5 minutes from post, he was glad we'd found something, and even managed to get it paid for. YAY!!! something positive, finally. (Of course Tri-Care will pay for a home birth with a CNM, and in other countries, it will pay for a licensed or registered Midwife and a home birth, so I shouldn't have been too surprised, but it was just such a relief.)
When we met with her, she showd us a photo album of some of the births they had at the clinic. There were pictures of several water births. I was interested in that as an option.
I began going to my prental visits at Nozomi Clinic with the Midwife Hideko Suzuki san and unfortuneatly with all the stress I think it effected me and I went past my expected due date on labor day Sept. 2nd.
The second week when I arrived for my prenatal apointment, the midwife assistant said I needed to have my baby, they were tired. I thought, ya, like I'm NOT tired?!?!?! Then I realized that they had been setting up the birth tub for me everynight, and waiting for me to go into labor... I couldn't believe it! these sweet women were trying to accomodate me and my labor history and were just waiting for me.
On Sept. 5th I started having some labor contractions a bit stronger and more regular (timeable) than my braxton hicks contractions that I had for months. They were 7 minutes apart, and I wondered when to think it was real or not. Sort of weird for a 5th time mom... but I'd never been in labor with a contraction that wasn't basically producing a baby! 7 minutes apart? what was that about? After 2 hours, they stopped and I went to bed.
Two nights later, I noticed some contractions again, and we were watching a movie as we got ready for bed. I kept coming out of the bathroom, (I was brushing my teeth, washing my face, etc. etc,) and looking at the clock on the VCR. Bill noticed my behavior and asked what was going on. I told him I was having contractions 7 minutes apart again. After an hour they moved up to 6 minutes apart. I thought, oh great, what do I do now? when do we cal the midwife to tell her we're on our way, when do I wake up all my kids to take them to unfamiliar territory, and hope they don't cause too much trouble. (we'd asked at our first appointment with the midwife, if our kids could come with us, and she said, yes, yes!!! Well at the 2nd apointment I asked if freinds could come (I had a 21 month old!!!, and 4 kids that might need someone there for them), Susukisan, said, "kids yes, friends - NO!" I said, who would help with my little one? she said, your husband. I said I wanted him to be there to help me. she said, she would help me.)
I left Bill to sleep, I went downstairs and got on-line with my Home Birth message board group that had been such a big support for me over these crazy months of trying to figure out how to plan for our birth. I said I thought I might be in labor, but who knows... I'd never had false labor before in my life with 4 other pregnancy's. So I wasn't sure about these now 6 minute apart contractions.
I went back up to bed, and Bill and I were talking about what to do. Was I in labor or not? then my water broke... we knew that we should get the show on the road! Bill went to wake up the girls, and when he went in Hannah woke right up and didn't act tired at all, and almost seemed like she knew it was time. We got everything, and little bags of things to keep the kids busy, toys, and snacks, etc... and off we went. When we got to the birth center they were filling the tub for me. It took up the majority of the main room in their clinic.
In all of my labors I have labored (until I arrived at the hosp with my first two and they put me in a bed), upright, and I would brace my hands on my knees durring a contraction and do a sort of squat. The midwife said it was similar but that Japanese women would do more of a wide legged open squat like a Sumo Wrestler. ;-) Suzuki san rubbed my back, and helped me deal with the contractions until the tub was filled enough for me to get in. I had envisioned myself laying back and relaxing in the tub in labor, as I'd seen in pictures, etc. NOPE! Not for me! my body told me that I HAD to be upright on my knees for each and every contraction! That was new and different for me. The tub wasn't exactly padded and it was on a hard floor underneath, and my knees started to hurt. Suzuki san, could see this, and as she was the one 'helping me', she was in her bike shorts and a t shirt, and was in the tub with me... she scooted up right behind me and had me sit back on her lap a little bit, and she woud rub my knees in between contractions to help relieve the discomfort in my knees. It was very sweet.
Some of my fondest memories are of my little family coming in and out of the birth room, They would get me drinks of water, rub/pat my shoulders, wiping my brow with a cloth, etc. At one point Sariah was sitting there singing softly in her sweet little voice a couple of primary songs. :-) I could tell things were getting intense, Hannah had a big diaper blow out! Bill was holding my hands sitting in front of me (outside of the tub), and he left to go change hannah's diaper. When Bill left, Rebekah got right up in front of me, and she held my hands, and told me that she was there for me, and that I could squeeze her hands as hard as I needed to... it was alright.
Oh what a special moment that was, and that memory etched into my mind of my daughters there helping me through birth, and seeing how normal birth could be.
I remember started to grunt and make birthy noises, and thinking, 'where did he go?' 'doesn't he know the baby is coming?'
He hurried as fast as he could and was back in the room fast as lightening really. (I think he could hear me and knew he needed to hurry). Hannah had messed up her jammies, so she was wearing just a diaper. I began to feel her head, and reached down and touched her head. It was so incredible, to feel as her head inched its way out, so slowly, little by little. The midwife had posters hung up with words to songs on them all around the birth room. They were of course in Japanese, but one was in German! I thought that was interesting. She explained that she has her Japanese women 'sing' while they are in labor, and it heps them, so she has the word to several songs written up on posters. As I labored and birthed Suzuki san began humming and it was clear she was trying to get me to 'hum' along with her. I guessed it was because I couldn't sing in Japanese ;-)
When we left for the birth center we had also called our friend/translator Naomi, not that we needed a translator at that point. We were able to communicate well enough, with her broken english. She came, and I got the impression that Suzuki san considered her a 'friend' and tried to get her to stay out of the birthing room on a couple of occasions... however Bill kept bringing her back into the birthing room (we figured she had helped us and if she wanted to see an out of hospital birth before having her baby the following month, she could be there). She asked Bill why the midwife was humming and trying to get me to blow through the contractions. He explained to Naomi that it was so that I didn't push to hard, and fast, so that my body had time to stretch and for the head to be able to deliver without any tearing. She thought that was very interesting (the next month as she went in to deliver, she told her Dr. she did not want an episiotomy, which I guess they've picked up from western medicine and do them routinely on all moms and it isn't questioned. She breathed slowly and birthed her baby without any tears, and was thrilled at how much better her recovery was from that birth than from her first baby where she'd had the episiotomy. She thanked me for allowing her to attend my birth and to learn that it could be different and that she took action and helped herself from what she'd learned.)
As I delivered my baby and pulled her up and out of the water to hug her to my chest, we didn't know what we were having, and Suzuki san actually said it was a boy (at first). Granted she was behind me and I had the baby up front with me and she really hadn't seen anything! I think she just wanted us to have a boy so bad, after 4 girls, she said it was a boy! Nope, it's a Girl!!!
I had an episiotomy (not needed, just standard practice where I delivered at in Germany), with my first baby. With Amanda I had had a small tear, no stitches needed, but because of the coached count to 10 pushing -push, push push! and the position the Dr put the bed in so I pushed her out UP Hill, I had a lot of bruising with a small baby - 5 lbs 9 oz. With both of my home births I had good births, and no tearing, but birthing in water, I was amazed at how much better my body felt and how good my healing was after the birth of my biggest baby 8 lbs.
Hannah who was standing by the side of the tub, wearing only a diaper, pointed and said, "Baby!, Baby! Baby!" That was her name for the next several days/weeks. When Hannah woke up the next morning that the first thing she would say and she'd come to find the baby to give her hugs and kisses. Very sweet!
After I got out of the tub and delivered the placenta, the midwife held it up and showed the kids, and said, "Look, this was your baby's house, where it grew before it was born!" I thought that was so cute! What a neat way to think about it... the baby's house. The midwife assistant (who also happened to be named Naomi), washed and dressed the baby in her cute little outfit that we'd brought with us. Then they got us set up a room to recover. They had the tatami-mat floor, and futons to sleep on. They brought in enough for my whole family, so that we could stay together, but by this time it was about 4 in the morning, and the kids were too wired to settle down, so Bill left Rebekah with me as my helper, and he took the other kids. He had a neighbor come help get them off to school (it was picture day so she did hair and stuff) and he came back to get us.
They brought me breakfast - I don't know if this is typical Japanese breakfast, or if this is postpartum food or what, but they brought me a tray of food. It was Miso soup, rice, fish, and tea to drink. Well... I don't like fish (or didn't at that time), and certainly wasn't interested in it for breakfast!!! I sipped on the miso soup, and ate the rice. I think there may have been some sort of fruit and I ate that. I had to ask for water. I was very glad that on our first meeting, I'd asked her how long I would have to stay after the birth (I like snuggling up in my own bed with my baby). Normally they keep mom's for around a week I think I remember. She told me 6 hours, I said fantastic! When Bill came back to get us around 8 am we were free to go! The midwife or her assistants would come to our home daily for the next several days to check on me and the baby. They would bathe her, weigh her, and check her out. It was great!
I still would have liked to have been at home for the birth, and I missed not having my midwife and friend - Katia - there with us... but it was a great birth and so much more than if I'd been forced to go to the military hospital. I was so greatful for Suzuki san and her concern for me and my family, and the wonderful care that I received.
Oh, and when Bill had gone to India the month before when I was 36 weeks, he bought me saphire earrings and necklace. When he brought Marissa upstairs he placed them in her lap in the car seat, so when I got up the stairs after arriving home after her birth, that was my surprise. How wonderful!
Well, that is the long crazy story of your birth. I should put down how we ended up naming you... but after this LONG post, I don't have the energy. Perhaps tomorrow.
Happy Birthday sweetheart! I am so happy that Heavenly Father sent you to our family. and I'm proud and excited for you to be baptised next week. I love you!
More Birthday fun!
We have 3 girls from church that all have their birthday's one day after the other. (We used to have 4, but one of our little friends moved to Chatanooga a couple of months ago). And the sister of one of the girls birthday is the same day as the younger one as well. The three are all turning 8 and getting baptised this year. It's a very exciting time!
Anyway the three families were all going to get together and have a bbq and pool party on Friday night. A Family Birthday party thing.
I made cake and we had a good time. We are sorry that the one family ended up not being able to make it, and the pool party part got a little rained out, but a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the birthday girls this weekend!!! R, K, A, Marissa and K - in Chatanooga.
I think I BROKE my toe(s)!!!!!!!!!!
I Should probably start with a disclaimer:
*I have never, and will never be hired as a foot Model!
Not that I have particularly ugly or gross looking feet, but I don't think anyone would want me on the front page of a magazine in all their amazing technicolor glory either.
*IF you have an aversion to feet (L, you know who you are...) You may not want to look at my pictures: :-) I'll try to make the pictures far enough down that you may not want to go there if you don't need to...
I was hurrying through my house thursday and my left foot hit the buckle for the car seat that was still sitting in my front hallway, from me being gone for the past two days, and slipped. I sort of did a half splits, and when my back foot, right foot, went backwards, two of my toes did not... I landed on my knee as well. I knew when I did it my toes should have been hurt, but I think they were sort of numb to begin with... they did start to feel a little tingly, and then the swelling started, and by evening and walking on my foot all day long around the house, I was feeling quite sore, and the bruising had really started. (So the bruising doesn't show up very well on camera. A lot of it is between the toes.)SO I wrapped my toes in tape, so I would stop trying to bend them and it helped, but I took some big motrin before I went to bed. Today I have been hobling on them so much, that my left knee I think is trying to compensate for the weight shift, and it is killing me! (also from the hard birth where I did a lot of kneeling and squating to work with the mom, my knees are shot). SO now I'm really hobbling around. It's sort of embarrassing to walk out in public.
What my two year old put down the toilet Pic's
Here is my poor little bathroom with the toilet pulled up/out. Bill found the problem, after removing the toilet and turning it upside down... What is that? you say...
A small hairbrush, stuck in the last turn of the toilet!
Thank Heaven for a wonderful husband who is a pretty good handy man and he knows how to snake a drain first of all, and then he knows how to remove a toilet, in order to remove the hair brush our wonderful son flushed down the toilet last week. Then he knows how to get a new toilet seal and replace the toilet with no leaks. What a guy!!! Thanks sweetheart!
Can you imagine what Roto-Rooter would have cost us??? That would have been one VERY expensive little hair brush!!!!!
births, babies, fun
I have only been home just over a week, have had sick kids, and crazy life, and Marissa had her Birthday party, and we cleaned and I made cake, and I have been at two births, in the past 5 days.
One birth was quite quick to a fourth time mom, I got the call at 6:30 a.m. and I almost made my friend J's birthday lunch... Happy B-Day, sorry I missed the party...
Then I came home finished up birthday party stuff - Thanks so much to my hubby and to my sickly child Amanda, who did a lot of it (decorated and put together the party bags), and generally helped a lot!
Friday night it was CRAZY at my house with a house full of squeeling 7 and 8 year olds!!!!!! They were out of control! I thought I might lose my mind! Bill wasn't feeling in top form, and he was falling asleep on the couch, in the middle of it all. There was some drama... we almost called parents to come take their little 'princesses' home by 9 pm. Rebekah came home from the football game/band trip at 11:45 p.m and by then I was exhausted, Bill was asleep, and Liam was insane... so I took Liam upstairs to get him setteled down and put him to sleep, and Rebekah sat downstairs with the crazy girls till they all finally setteled down and fell asleep, without doing anything mean or crazy to anyone else after 1 am. Thank you Rebekah!!! (I'll post pic's ina separate post).
Sunday, Bill took Hannah home from church she wasn't feeling well, and Rebekah stayed home from church sick.
Monday we spent most of the day with one kid or another trying to help them/ get them to clean up their rooms! Then Bill took the girls to the fair across town, Rebekah was at work, and Liam was stayed home with me. Tuesday I took Rebekah to the Dr. to see if we could get her something, before she spent a week home from school like Amanda did the week before.
Then I went to a postpartum visit with the mom who had her baby last week, and while I was there I got called about another mom in labor, so I went off to that labor/birth, and Rebekah helped with the kids, and made dinner.
Wed. our sweet friend J came over and spent the day with Liam, since I still wasnt' home (no baby yet), then she helped transport kids to their activities, like Karate, and Activity Day, YW's. What a great friend she is, and we are all going to miss her and her sweet little girls dearly when she moves in a few weeks! :-( boo hoo!!!
The little mom that I was working with, was a trooper! She was like the little train that could... whenever we gav her a suggestion or asked for her to do something different, she would say, "I'll try." or "I guess I can try". She only sort of said she didn't think she could do it once in her over 30 hours of hard labor! She was so amazing!!! First baby, 9 lbs, no tear or anything, she was amazing! I'm totally behind about writing down birth stories in my birth stories blog, but I will have to get to this one soon, before the events of the day fade away...
Next week Bill will be in Munich. He was supposed to leave on Sat. however with the storms blowing up from the south... they would have been rerouted from Charlston to Denver (an extra 3 hours of flight time, etc... so they are all flying out Friday (tomorrow) instead, ahead of the storms. Yay! Then he's home for a week and gone again to Orlando for a week.
Never a dull moment!!!
